The boy who fell to Earth
Children, for whom a pointed finger is a "gun" and a stick a "horse," are ideal theatergoers. They're used to imaginatively filling in the gap between signifiers and reality. Grownups are less indulgent: Hence the dull representationalism that hobbles so many theatrical experiences. Antoine de St. Exupéry, however, would have us know that, "What is essential is invisible to the eye."
